2023/24 Season – 30th Anniversary
CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY
By Lynn Nottage
Directed by Bianca LaVerne Jones
November 9 – December 17, 2023
Just arrived in Brooklyn from the South, the Crump family is seeking their place in the Philadelphia-based Father Divine movement – but their two brilliant daughters on the cusp of adulthood are chafing at their father's religious strictures. Their big dreams for the future are encouraged by their lively, fearless, free-thinking, communist Aunt Lily. This dramatic gem from two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage gently reveals the funny and touching struggles of a family trying to make a fresh start in a strange world full of temptations and surprises.

The Philadelphia Tribune interviews Crumbs actor Walter DeShields: "He may be one of the busiest and hardest-working performance artists and educators in our area. He's an actor, but not just an actor. He's a teacher, but not just a teacher. And he's an activist, but not just an activist. In fact, Walter DeShields wears so many hats that it's hard to pick just one that fits him best."
"The cast shines... Directed by Bianca LaVerne Jones, this rendition of Crumbs is powerful, heartwarming, and thoughtful." –Broad Street Review
