SOJOURNER BY RICHARD LaMonte PIERCE
Performed by Zuhairah McGill
Saturday, September 13, 2025 1:30 to 3PM
In this riveting one-person play, Philadelphia theater artist Zuhairah McGill plays Sojourner Truth, the abolitionist and women's rights activist who was born into slavery in rural New York in the late 18th century. After freeing herself, she successfully sued her enslavers to gain custody of her son. By the 1840s she preached for abolition and women's rights, rising to national prominence. This devastating yet inspiring tale provides a compelling and personal look into Antebellum America and Sojourner Truth's extraordinary life.
